Since I am stuck here with an injury (lacerated kidney from a slam), I might as well make some update, huh? I know, most of you see this stuff on Facebook anyway. Let’s look at this site as more of an archive of what has been going on with Naysayer. Deal? Since I never posted the last two ads we ran with Focus and FTK on here, now if your chance to give them a look (assuming you didn’t already see them in the mags or on Facebook or Twitter). Afterall, the new mags are coming out any day now with new ads.

Here is Jerry Yates summoning the ghost of The King for this quick-footed 5-0 in the last FTK Magazine. The Featured Shop needs no introduction: The Skatepark of Tampa. Go spend some money with them so they are happy they carry Naysayer boards. Photo courtesy of Ben Kilpatrick.

Over in the last Focus Magazine, Hadrien Buhannic balanced this nosegrind pop out in Paris, despite the dreadful beams of those mangy cats. The Featured Shop is RAW (formerly Assemble and Conquer) out of Somerville, MA. Stop by, skate the manny pad up the street, and of course give them all the money in your pockets for whatever product that will net you. Photo courtesy of Benoit Renaux.

Oh, and it looks like the review train still had some steam. The latest Lowcard Magazine included a review of the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee and NaysLayer boards. Not to mention the review of some boards from our homies over at Open Skateboards on the page right below us. Check it out and go pick up a copy of the mag at your local shop. It’s a good one.

I still haven’t really gotten started on editing the clip from the Naysayer Tour, but I have been busy…uh, who am I kidding? I’ve been skating, a lot (up until being hospitalized on Friday, so expect progress to happen since I am off my board for a while). I have most of the footage, just waiting on a couple more things. There are actually some new graphics in the works now too. “In the works,” as in still being drawn up, but they are getting close to being done. So we should have some new graphics soon than you have come to expect from us. We will try to keep some of the graphics you all love so much around for a bit too (Aliens, NaysLayer, and Biggie Stardust). Stay Sassy!

So the first ever Naysayer Tour is a wrap. The tour included Jerry Yates, Hadrien Buhannic, Maurice Leeke, Nabi Salomon, myself (Eby Ghafarian), Ben Kilpatrick, and special guests in the form of Piro Sierra (Tampa/Bronx) and two goofs from The Bloby’s Crew (Paris): Gregoire Cuadrado & Roman Gonzalez. Two weeks and over 3k miles later. The Bloby’s went back to Paris, Jerry went back to Georgia, and Ben went back to Florida. While Ben has been editing the photos from the trip (for a possible tour article), he put together a blog post of some highlights. I have re-posted it here with some corrections (but it can be seen in its original form over at his blog here).
I would like to give a special shout out to the following people who helped us along the way, be it with a place to sleep or with spots or anything else:

" target="_blank">Ben Kilpatrick for shooting some epic photos.

The tour was great and a lot of fun (though 100+ degrees the whole time!) and while we are going to save the best of the footage for the Naysayer video, we are working on a trip clip with some of the footage that we won’t be using. So look out for that soon. Also, we posted this clip on Facebook a while back. Our first day in Durham, NC we got rained out, but the kind folks at Your Daily Grind (YDG) Skatepark in Graham, NC gave us a place to skate. We threw this clip together from that session the same night.

Sometimes life throws so much at you that you have to buckle down and focus on what is important at the moment to maintain sanity. Keith Denley has been at that point and while he will continue to skate, he has decided to part ways with Naysayer to focus on other priorities outside of skateboarding. Keith is one of the more stylish skateboarders to come out of Long Island and we wish him the best moving forward. He is sure to kill it in whatever he pursues!

Good luck, Keith.

We have been getting a lot of exposure in terms of product reviews this week. It started with our boards reviewed on the Transworld Japan site, as seen here. Then the NaysLayer board (standard shape, not cruiser) was reviewed in the new issue of Soma Skateboard Magazine (out of France).

And finally, I went into KCDC Skateshop a couple days ago and was told that we had a board in the Product Geek section of The Skateboard Mag. I flipped through and found that they reviewed our Aliens board!

That is on top of us being in the Board Forum section of the last FTK and we also have a couple other things in the works too. We have been busy overall. Our booth at the Maloof Money Cup in Queens went pretty well. Besides the clouds of dust blowing through the tent, we got to meet a lot of you and Queens has a new skatepark! Team rider, Jerry Yates, and photog, Ben Kilpatrick, are coming to NYC in a week and half and are ready to get to work killing some NYC spots proper. Jerry has never been here before, so he is pretty stoked.

We have been keeping the shop page pretty up-to-date, so check it to see if we are in a shop near you yet!

I hope you are following us on Facebook or on Twitter, because we are updating those much more than we are updating the website. If you are then you already know about Nick Blanco winning the Naysayer Pop Off Contest, with Andrew Metzger and Alan Osgood coming in second and third, respectively. Here is the video of their submissions:

Naysayer Pop Off Contest Winner from Naysayer Skateboards on Vimeo.

All three of them were epic and it wasn’t easy to pick a winner, but the team casted their votes and Nick came out on top. He sent in this photo of his prizes:

We also posted some footage from the trip to Boston I took with the flow guys, Maurice and Nabi. Well, me and Nabi went because Maurice is going to school up there at Northeastern, so he showed us around. Most of our time was spend getting kicked out of almost every spot before we even took the camera out to film, but here is what we did capture.

Naysayer Boston Flow Trip from Naysayer Skateboards on Vimeo.

I spoke to Jerry today and it looks like we will have some footage coming out way for a proper clip or two of our Georgia boy. So look out for that in the nearish future. He is on a mission, because on top of all that, he is still filming a part for the Naysayer video and working on a full interview for FTK. Speaking of, grab the new FTK and Focus mags when they come out. There should be lots of Naysayer goodness in both of them.

I know it took a while but we finally got some decent product shots of the boards and I updated the product page with them. Also, the shop page has been updated with some new shops we got into recently, and I updated the web store for those of you without a shop that carries Naysayer in your area. Support your local skateshop before anything! If your shop doesn’t carry Naysayer, tell them to hit us up (info@naysayerskateboards.com) about getting some boards.

The Pop Off Contest ends at the end of the month (March 31st). So go get busy filming and/or shooting photos of your tricks that don’t involve popping into them. Bonus points for lines linking multiple tricks that meet the criteria. The team will be judging and the best ones will go into a montage. The winner gets a Naysayer board. Creativity is weighed higher than skill/difficulty itself. So anyone can take it…just think outside of the box.

Just to clarify for the Pop Off Contest: Your skateboard must make contact with whatever obstacle you are skating before leaving the ground. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t count. No bonelesses into thing, no no-complying into things. You could, however, do whatever you’d like out of your trick. There is an exception for no-complies…you can no-comply polejam/wallie/wallride (since your board doesn’t leave the ground before hitting the obstacle.
